A2SEA’s wind turbine installation vessel Sea Challenger has left Hull with a first load of turbine components to be installed on the 1,218MW Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

A2SEA is in charge of transporting and installing half of the wind farm’s 174 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines.

The remaining half of the turbines is being installed by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier. The company’s jack-up Bold Tern installed the first turbine at the site some 120 kilometres off Yorkshire earlier this month. The wind farm produced its first power shortly thereafter.

Current AIS data shows Sea Challenger and Bold Tern working in the vicinity of each other at the wind farm.

Once completed in 2020, Hornsea One will become the biggest wind farm in the world. The wind farm is owned by Ørsted (50%), also the developer of the project, and Global Infrastructure Partners (50%).
