TFKable Puts Moray East Cable to the Test

TELE-FONIKA Kable (TFKable) has conducted the first Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of a 220kV onshore high-voltage cable for the UK’s Moray East offshore wind farm at its Bydgoszcz plant in Poland.

The cable supplier informed via social media that it had successfully FAT-tested 1,600mm² and 2,000mm² sizes to industry international standards.

At the beginning of February, the company announced that it had produced the first part of the 220kV cable for the 950MW offshore wind farm, after winning the contract at the end of January.

The cable sections produced and tested at TFKable’s Bydgoszcz plant will be transported to Scotland on drum rotation systems. A total of 270 drums will be delivered throughout the first three quarters of the year.

TFKable was awarded the onshore high-voltage cable contract together with VolkerInfra, which will install the cables and thus connect the wind farm to the National Grid at the onshore substation at New Deer in Aberdeenshire.

Siemens, the main contractor for connecting the offshore wind farm to the Scottish grid, started working on the onshore substation site in September 2018 and said it anticipated Moray East link to be operational by April 2021.

The wind farm, located 22 kilometers off the Scottish coast, will comprise 100 MHI Vestas 9.5MW wind turbines, with the developer expecting the project to be fully up and running in 2022.

Moray East is being developed by the Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Ltd consortium, owned by EDPR, Diamond Green Limited and ENGIE.
