Prysmian Group has won a contract to develop a turnkey cable system for the Provence Grand Large floating offshore wind project in France.
Under the EUR 30 million deal, Prysmian will supply 3km of inter-array cables, 19km of export cables and onshore cables for a 9km route.
All submarine cables will be produced at the company’s centers of excellence in Drammen, Norway, and Vilanova, Spain, while the onshore cables will be manufactured in the Gron plant in France.
“It is the first turn-key project for a floating wind farm ever developed by the Group, where we employ our innovative dynamic 66 kV submarine cables with EPR insulation. This project is also the first pre-commercial floating offshore wind farm ever developed in France,” said Alessandro Panico , Sales Team Manager – Offshore Wind, Prysmian Group.
Prysmian will also provide a full combined PRY-CAM permanent monitoring system, which will enable all inter-array connections to be permanently monitored and the measurement of all key operating parameters of the whole cable system.
“This is the first example in the world of a full combined permanent monitoring system for an offshore wind farm,” said Roberto Candela , CEO of Prysmian Electronics.
“We have worked in close collaboration with the customer to design a tailor-made monitoring solution that will allow to constantly monitor and guarantee the rating of the transmission system.”
Provence Grand Large will comprise three Siemens Gamesa 8.4MW turbines mounted on a float system developed by SBM Offshore and IFP Energies Nouvelles.
The 25MW floating offshore wind farm, owned by EDF Energies, is scheduled for commissioning in 2021.
