Japanese Utility Joins 700MW Offshore Wind Project

Japanese Utility Tohoku Electric Power (TEP) has invested in the Akita Yurihonjo offshore wind project in Japan.

Renova is leading the development of the project which is planned to have a power generating capacity of approximately 700MW, making it one of the largest offshore wind farms in Japan.

The company said it is currently engaged in dialogues with local residents, fishermen and other industries, while at the same time environmental impact assessments and various other surveys are being conducted.

Besides Renova, Akita Yurihonjo is owned by Eco Power Company Ltd and JR East Japan Energy Development Co. Ltd.

Project construction is planned to begin in the 2021 financial year, while commissioning is expected to commence in the 2024 financial year.
