Global Offshore, part of Global Marine Group, has won an inter-array cable installation contract by Vattenfall for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark.

Global Offshore will carry out the inter-array cable installation, burial, testing and termination at the 605MW project.

The company said its multi-purpose vessel Global Symphony will complete the installation supported by the fleet.

Scheduled to begin this summer, the offshore work will start with boulder clearance using a new multi-function pre-lay and backfill subsea plough provided by Osbit.

The new plough is said to minimize the operational risk and time required to install cables using single pass capability that delivers boulder clearance and pre-trenching up to 1.7m in a single run.

“Our team’s work will begin on site in summer 2019 with boulder clearance along the cable installation route utilising our new pre-lay plough, which is an exciting new tool for our subsea business,” said Mike Daniel, Managing Director of Global Offshore.

“We’re equally pleased to be working with our CWind colleagues within the Global Marine Group who will be completing the cable pull-in activities on site.”

JDR Cables recently secured a contract to manufacture more than 70km of aluminium core inter-array cables and a range of termination accessories for the 605MW project.

The Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm will comprise 72 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines scheduled to be in full operation before the end of 2021.
