The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on offshore wind development.

Dutch Consul General Dolph Hogewoning and BOEM Acting Director Walter Cruikshank signed the agreement on 8 April at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in New York.

The Netherlands and the U.S. want to strengthen cooperation on offshore wind development as there are many best practices and lessons learned that can benefit all parties, the Dutch Ministry said.

The MoU is said to reflect the parties’ shared interest in increasing renewable energy sources for the sake of greater energy security and economic development.

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency will take the lead in the cooperative activities, the ministry concluded.

“W e are very excited to start this collaboration in offshore wind, a sector in which the Netherlands is working on for long time,” said Hogewoning .

“The Netherlands and the United States should increase the production of renewable energy, but this is a job we cannot do alone; we must collaborate closely. I want to thank US BOEM, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and RVO for their input and energy to make this cooperation a success!”
