The UK and Scottish Governments are holding a summit in Edinburgh dedicated to looking at maximizing the offshore wind sector.

The event will take place on 2 May and will bring together trade unions, offshore wind developers and supply chain companies to look at how UK companies can benefit more from the build-out of offshore wind farms.

Finance Secretary Derek Mackay will co-host the summit with UK Energy Minister Claire Perry.

According to Mackay, Scotland has all the natural resources necessary to make it an ideal location for offshore wind, but it has to be made sure that the economy is not missing out from key contracts going overseas.

“We are committed to maximising the sector in Scotland but we cannot do it alone – we need the whole industry to work together,” said Mackay .

“This summit will allow us to talk directly with the key developers and suppliers to establish what more we can do to help. The Scottish Government will be examining the consent process to ensure we use the powers at our disposal to keep work on these shores. And I hope to hear more from the developers and suppliers on what they plan to do to help grow our renewables economy.”

According to the Scottish government, summit invitees include Boskalis, DEME GeoSea, EDF Renewables, E.ON, Equinor, GE Renewable Energy, GMB, innogy, Jan De Nul, MHI Vestas, Moray East Renewables, Ørsted, RWE, Scottish Power, SDIC Red Rock Power, Seaway Heavy Lifting, Siemens Gamesa, SSE, Unite the Union, Van Oord and Vattenfall.
