Rostock-based EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH has started manufacturing the monopiles for Vattenfall’s 605MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm.

The first pipe for the Danish offshore wind farm was made in the Rostock production site this May.

By September 2019, all 72 monopiles will have been produced and coated, according to the company.

In spring 2020, the up to 800 tonnes heavy monopiles will be sailed from Rostock directly to the offshore construction site for installation 15-40 kilometres off the Danish coast.

“We have been preparing this project for some time and are well on schedule. Now it’s time to start construction. It’s always great to reach this point, when the elements of the wind farm are starting to take shape,” said Ian Bremner , Project Director for Kriegers Flak Offshore Wind Farm.

Denmark’s Bladt Industries will deliver the 72 transition pieces for the project.

Van Oord will deploy its heavy lift vessel Svanen to transport and install the 72 monopile foundations in the Danish Baltic Sea.

The Kriegers Flak wind farm will feature 72 Siemens Gamesa 8.4MW turbines scheduled to be fully operational before the end of 2021.

“This summer we will be finalising Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm in the North Sea. Perfectly timed with the construction start of Kriegers Flak. Together they will increase Vattenfall’s offshore wind capacity significantly contributing to our goal of enabling a fossil-free living within one generation,” said Vattenfall’s Danish Country Manager and Head of Offshore Wind, Michael Simmelsgaard .
