Van Oord has completed the laying of inter-array cables at the 269MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea ahead of schedule, Northland Power, the owner and developer of the project, said.
The cables were laid by Van Oord’s cable laying vessel Nexus. The cable burial at the site some 95 kilometres northwest of the Borkum Island is expected to start soon, Northland Power said.
Van Oord, the Balance of Plant contractor (BoP) for the project, had awarded Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW) with a contract to design, produce and deliver 45 kilometres of medium-voltage submarine power cables for the wind farm’s inter-array grid.
Deutsche Bucht will comprise a total of 33 MHI Vestas 8.4MW wind turbines installed on 31 monopile foundations and two mono bucket foundations and expected to be commissioned by the end of the year. The turbine installation is expected to start shortly .
