German offshore foundations manufacturer Steelwind Nordenham has received an order to provide monopiles and monopile sections for the 640MW Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan.
Following its selection as the preferred supplier in December 2018, Steelwind Nordenham received the firm order from YunNeng/wpd-Taiwan at the end of May 2019.
The order includes the supply of 40 monopiles from Nordenham, and the supply of 120 segments for Formosa Heavy Industries (FHI) Corporation which will fabricate additional 40 monopiles from those sections in Mailao, Taiwan. Localization requirements in Taiwan will be satisfied by this, Nordenham said.
”We are extremely satisfied that we have got this order. It is very encouraging that we are now able to supply monopiles „beyond XXL“ with diameter up to 10 m and unit weight up to nearly 2.000 t,“ said Dr.Ralf Hubo , Managing Director of Steelwind.
The fabrication will start in July 2019 and will continue until June 2020. The monopiles and the monopile sections will be transported from Germany to Taiwan by Jumbo Maritime.
The Yunlin offshore wind farm will feature 80 Siemens Gamesa installed on monopile foundations some eight kilometres offshore. The project achieved financial close at the end of May. Project completion is scheduled in December 2021.
