The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) is inviting expressions of interest from parties interested in using the Homeport Pier for offshore wind activities.
The request for expressions of interest is aimed at offshore wind companies, service providers, manufacturers and developers wishing to locate, develop and use the Homeport Pier in Staten Island or a part of it for offshore wind.
NYCEDC invites companies that wish to use the pier for the fabrication, installation and staging, and/or operations, maintenance and repair facilities to support offshore wind development along the Atlantic seaboard from Maine to Virginia.
Additionally, parties interested in using, locating or developing the Homeport Pier for other maritime industry related uses are welcome to apply.
The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is 24 July at 4:00 p.m. local time. Selected respondents will enter into a lease, license or other agreement with the City of New York.
At the beginning of the year, the New York State’s Governor Andrew Cuomo proposed the target of 9GW of operational offshore wind capacity by 2035. The state had already established a goal of reaching 2.4GW of operational capacity by 2030.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) issued a solicitation in November last year seeking 800MW or more of new offshore wind projects, leading to the state having its first large-scale offshore wind development contracts in place in spring this year.
