Petrofac and TenneT have confirmed the award of the contract to build the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) offshore grid connection Beta HVAC substation in the Dutch North Sea.
This follows the award of the contract for HKZ platform Alpha in July 2018 and subsequent confirmation of HKZ platform Beta option.
A total of eight 700MW standardised concept transformer substations will be installed offshore of the Netherlands until 2030.
Petrofac is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of both the third (HKZ platform Alpha) and fourth (HKZ platform Beta) substation which have a total contract value of approximately USD 200 million.
HKZ platform Alpha is scheduled to become operational in 2021, with HKZ platform Beta scheduled to become operational in 2022.

The 1.4GW Hollandse Kust Zuid zone comprises four 350MW wind farms that will be connected to the two offshore substations.
In March 2018, Vattenfall was selected as the winning bidder in the tender for sites I and II at the offshore wind zone. The tender for the Hollandse Kust Zuid III and IV is ongoing .
