CWind Taiwan has secured two crew transfer vessel (CTV) charters for the Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

CWind Taiwan secured a 90-day extension with Formosa Offshore Wind for the Taiwan-flagged Ocean Surveyor 3 in support of the project’s ongoing phase 1 maintenance requirements.

The second contract was secured with Jan De Nul for the 27m long CWind Phantom, which began supporting the construction of the wind farm in June.

The company said it had shipped CWind Phantom from Europe and re-flagged it to a Taiwanese flag as a commitment toward industry localization.

“In this immature but rapidly growing market, the availability of capable vessels, manned by highly skilled crew with local knowledge, is vital to deliver projects successfully,” said Ethan Wang , CWind Taiwan’s Commercial Director.

“CWind Taiwan has growing access to specialist vessels and experienced local crew and has been serving Formosa 1 Offshore wind farm since 2015. We look forward to working closely with our partners FOWI and JDN during the second phase of this milestone project.”

Formosa 1 Phase 2 has recently entered the construction phase and will add 20 Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines to the already operational first two-turbine phase.

The 128MW project, being developed in a joint venture of Ørsted, JERA, Macquarie Capital and Swancor, will be Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm.
