The Dutch Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has won a contract to transport and install foundations for the Vineyard Wind project in Massachusetts, U.S.
Under the contract, Heerema said it is in charge of the (offshore) transport and installation of 84 foundations consisting of monopiles and transition pieces and ESP platforms at the 800MW project.
“We are extremely proud to be part of the first and largest commercial offshore wind project in the United States. This project fits perfectly into Heerema’s agenda to participate in innovative and sustainable projects,” said Heerema CEO Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven .
Sif Holding, also headquartered in the Netherlands, will manufacture 84 monopiles for Vineyard Wind. The transition pieces will be produced by Spain’s Windar Renovables.
Denmark’s Bladt Industries signed an EPC contract for fabrication and delivery of an offshore substation for the U.S. offshore wind farm.
Vineyard Wind will comprise 84 MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines located some 14 miles off Martha’s Vineyard. The 800MW offshore wind farm is planned to be operational by 2021.
