Dominion Energy and the U.S. Business Network for Offshore Wind are holding an event in Virginia with an aim to support the state’s inclusion of large-scale offshore wind in its energy mix.

The Sea to Land event will bring together the supply chain business community with federal and state government officials to accelerate Virginia’s inclusion of large-scale offshore wind within its energy mix.

According to the Network, the topics to be covered include the potential of a coordinated port strategy for the East Coast and how it can be developed, as well as the ports and logistics for project construction and operation phases.

In addition, the event will focus on the construction and O&M of vessels, supply chain joint ventures and opportunities, and federal, state and local resource to support the industry.

The event will be held on 19 and 20 September at the Hilton Norfolk.

To remind, last year Virginia’s Governor Ralph Northam released a plan which calls for the development of 2,000MW of offshore wind capacity by 2028.

Dominion Energy is developing the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) demonstration project with Ørsted, which recently entered the construction phase with the kick-off of onshore works.

CVOW will feature two Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines on a 2,135ha lease area located some 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. The plan is to have the project operating by December 2020.
