Sif Holding has entered into an agreement with DEME Offshore to use Maasvlakte 2 in the Netherlands for marshaling services for the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind project.

The deal comes as Sif agreed with the Port of Rotterdam on the lease of an additional 20ha of industrial land, adjacent to the company’s existing operations at Maasvlakte 2.

For Borssele 1 & 2, 47 monopiles, 94 transition pieces and 94 anode cages will be shipped from Denmark, Germany and the UK to Maasvlakte 2, where they will be assembled and prepared for offshore construction.

The provision of services will start in October, Sif said.

According to the company, the quay facilities will be expanded by 200m by mid-2023 and will have a guaranteed nautical depth of 16.5m NAP, allowing close-to-quay jacking and surface load of 10 Kn/m2.

“This 20 Ha extension perfectly fits our strategy to expand our services to the offshore wind industry with complex marshalling and terminal activities for offshore wind,” said Sif Holding CEO Fred van Beers .

“We foresee a structural demand for these services and are proud to be selected by Deme Offshore who is our launching customer for these marshalling services when preparing and realizing their offshore wind project Borssele I-II.”

Sif won a contract in October last year to produce 47 monopiles for Borssele 1 & 2, while EEW SPC will manufacture the remaining 47 pieces.

EEW OSB will produce 35 transition pieces for the 94 monopile foundations, with Bladt in charge of the remaining 59 pieces.

Borssele 1 & 2 will comprise 94 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines located about 23km from the coast of Westkapelle. The 752MW offshore wind farm is scheduled to start operating by the end of 2020.
