German offshore wind industry associations have once again called for a special tender to be launched for the development of up to 2GW of capacity.
As reported in July , BWE, BWO, Stiftung OFFSHORE-WINDENERGIE, VDMA Power Systems, and WAB are urging the government to raise the expansion targets and set up a reliable framework for the development of offshore wind.
According to the parties, all legal requirements for the tender should be met this year so it can be launched at the beginning of 2020.
“The industry now needs reliable, long-term framework conditions. This includes raising the overall expansion targets and the necessary regulatory adjustments for the realization of the special contribution of offshore wind energy later this year,” the industry said.
The expansion targets should be raised to at least 20GW of installed capacity by 2030 and 30GW by 2035 in the German parts of the North Sea and Baltic Sea, the representatives said.
A reliable framework and ambitious expansion targets are necessary so that investments in German locations are worthwhile again and jobs are secured. A gap in the expansion, as it threatens from 2020, is not acceptable in terms of industrial policy, the parties emphasized.
The representatives claim that concrete legislative steps must be taken immediately after the summer break.
