The joint venture of Shell New Energies US and EDPR Offshore North America has submitted bids for the development of its Mayflower Wind offshore wind project in response to Connecticut’s Request for Proposals (RfP) .
The Mayflower Wind joint venture submitted an 804MW proposal and a 408MW proposal in what is Connecticut’s first solicitation dedicated specifically to offshore wind development.
The RfP is inviting the development of up 2,000MW of capacity and builds off of multi-resource solicitations in 2018 in which the state bought 304MW of offshore wind from Ørsted’s Revolution Wind project.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) launched the process in August, within days of enactment of Public Act 19-71, An Act Concerning the Procurement of Energy Derived from Offshore Wind, and sought comments from stakeholders on a draft of the RFP in July.
“Governor Lamont has outlined a vision for moving Connecticut toward a clean energy future, and we believe our proposal can play a role in advancing that vision in an affordable manner,” said John Hartnett , President of Mayflower Wind.
“The state’s comprehensive energy strategy calls for deployment of cheaper, cleaner, and more reliable energy resources – and that is exactly what we are offering.”
As reported, the Mayflower Wind joint venture is also participating in the latest round of RfP for long-term contracts for offshore wind energy projects in Massachusetts, in which it submitted three 800MW proposals as well as a 400MW proposal.
