Vineyard Wind has submitted bids to develop an up to 1.2GW offshore wind project in Connecticut in response to the state’s Request for Proposals (RfP) .

The Park City Wind proposal comprises a set of bids, including a required 400MW plan and options to develop projects that will generate 800MW, 1,000MW and 1,200MW of offshore wind capacity.

The joint venture of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Avangrid Renewables proposes to construct the project in one of its two federally designated lease areas located south of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket on the east coast.

According to Vineyard Wind, each Park City Wind option will provide economic development and thousands of jobs particularly in and near Bridgeport, and will not be visible from any shoreline in Connecticut.

“Our Park City Wind proposal is much more than an energy project – it’s an opportunity for Connecticut to develop a world-class offshore wind industry in Bridgeport and solidify its role as a high value industry hub in the U.S. for years to come,” said Lars Pedersen , CEO of Vineyard Wind.

“Vineyard Wind looks forward to working with all stakeholders involved throughout the review process and will be announcing additional details about this exciting opportunity in the weeks ahead.”

The RfP, which represents Connecticut’s first solicitation dedicated specifically to offshore wind development, is inviting the development of up 2,000MW of capacity.

It builds off of multi-resource solicitations in 2018 in which the state bought 304MW of offshore wind from Ørsted’s Revolution Wind project.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) launched the process in August, within days of enactment of Public Act 19-71, An Act Concerning the Procurement of Energy Derived from Offshore Wind.
