Ideol and Taisei Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint development and promotion of concrete foundations for floating offshore wind in Japan using Ideol’s Damping Pool technology.
According to Ideol and Taisei, floating offshore wind is a promising market in Japan as its potential is three times larger than that of bottom-fixed offshore wind.
The two parties anticipate that the use of concrete will enable them to further reduce the cost of floating foundations.
Damping Pool, the ring-shaped floating foundation, has been developed and patented by Ideol and built by Bouygues Travaux Publics.
Ideol provided the foundation for the Hibiki floating offshore wind power generation system in Japan, which began demonstration operations in June.
The Damping Pool is also being used for the Floatgen project which comprises a 2MW Vestas V80 turbine , as well as the EolMed project, both offshore France.
