Century Iron & Steel Industrial has completed the first pin pile assembly for the offshore wind sector in Taiwan.

A ceremony to mark the completion of the first pin pile assembly was held on 12 October at the Port of Taipei.

According to Lai Wen-hsiang, Chairman of Century Iron & Steel Industrial, the company invested NT$6 billion (approximately EUR 173 million) in an assembly plant at the port.

Speaking at the ceremony, Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen said green energy will allow Taiwan to generate revenue from all over the world and the administration will continue its efforts to develop the industry.

The pin piles assembly is the first step as Taiwan works towards having all underwater structures and components for its offshore energy projects manufactured domestically, Tsai stated.

Offshore wind has the potential to become a NT$1.2 trillion (circa EUR 34.62 billion) a year industry in Taiwan, providing additional jobs, the president said, emphasizing that this assembly project has, directly and indirectly, helped create 300-500 jobs at higher than average pay.
