The Polish Ministry for Investments and Development and GE Renewable Energy have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to cooperate on the development of Poland’s offshore wind sector.
Polish Minister of Finance, Investment and Development Jerzy Kwieciński and GE’s Sławomir Żygowski and Fabrice Kermorgant signed the LoI on 28 October in Warsaw.
Under the agreement, the two parties want to kickstart joint action for investments in Poland’s renewable energy sector.
“Both partners expect closer cooperation to maximize their involvement in the growing renewable energy sector in Poland and worldwide, with particular emphasis on offshore wind farm projects,” said Żygowski .
“Based on our extensive network of over 5,000 certified Polish companies in our supply chain, we are proud to extend our cooperation to help Poland achieve its emission reduction goals and cooperate with the government in its efforts to transform the country’s energy system.”
At the end of last year, Poland revealed plans to develop 8GW of offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea by 2035.
The energy company PGE recently presented forecasts showing Poland’s Baltic Sea has the capacity to generate 9GW to 12GW of energy, ranking it second only to the North Sea, which has capacity for 13GW.
In total, 13 wind farm projects are under consideration in Poland’s Baltic Sea with an ambition to generate 25% of the country’s energy by offshore wind by 2040.
