The Hywind Tampen developers have signed contracts with Kværner, Siemens Gamesa, Subsea 7 and JDR Cable Systems for the construction of the floating offshore wind farm that will power the Gullfaks and Snorre oil & gas platforms in Norway.
Under the contracts worth NOK 3.3 billion (EUR 322.5 million), Kværner will construct the substructures, Siemens Gamesa will deliver eleven of its SG 8.0-167 DD wind turbines, JDR will provide the cables, and Subsea 7 will carry out cable installation and connection to the Snorre and Gullfaks platforms.
Along with building the substructures, Kværner’s contract includes assembly, tow-out and installation of completed wind turbines.
The wind turbines will be serviced by Siemens Gamesa under a 5-year maintenance agreement.
Signing of the contracts comes shortly after the final investment decision, which Equinor and its Gullfaks and Snorre partners reached earlier in October.
“Won in international competition, the contracts prove that the oil and gas industry is also competitive for renewables projects. The awarded contracts will generate considerable spin-offs in Norway,” said Anders Opedal , Equinor’s executive vice president for Technology, projects & drilling.
All contracts are subject to final approval of the plan for development and operation (PDO) by Norwegian authorities, Equinor pointed out.
The NOK 5 billion (approximately EUR 497.3 million) Hywind Tampen project is expected to come online in late 2022.
