Siemens Gamesa has reached a milestone with the installation of its 1,000th offshore Direct Drive wind turbine.
The milestone unit is the 51st turbine that Siemens Gamesa recently installed on the 714MW East Anglia One offshore wind project in the UK.
Siemens Gamesa said that a further 1,000 Direct Drive offshore wind turbines have been sold.
According to the company, since being launched in 2011, the 1,000 units combined have avoided approximately 29 million tons of CO2 compared to fossil fuel power generation.
The 1,000 turbines cover more than 20 sites all over the world and have a total combined capacity of over 6.5GW.
Based on the collected performance data, the Direct Drive offshore wind turbine fleet has produced approximately 34.6TWh of electricity since the first unit was installed eight years ago.
