Sif has removed the Vineyard Wind project from its 2020 order book since the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has not yet issued a permit.
Sif stated that the 800MW offshore wind project is still in its order book, but no longer for 2020 as manufacturing of the 84 monopiles next year “has become illusive.”
According to the Dutch company, by removing Vineyard Wind from the 2020 order book and including the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project as a firm contract, the order book for 2020 stands at approximately 150Kton, all as firm contracts.
“On Vineyard Wind, we remain in dialogue with our customer. As it is still not clear when and in what configuration the project will continue, we consider this project to be part of our mid-term opportunity list,” said Fred van Beers , CEO of Sif.
To remind, BOEM announced in July it is postponing the issuance of the Vineyard Wind Final Environmental Impact Study (FEIS) saying it is not yet prepared to do so. Shortly after, the agency stated that a supplemental draft EIS process needs to be undertaken.
Vineyard Wind was expected to enter project construction this year and to be operational by 2022. The 800MW project will feature MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines located some 14 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard.
