Jan De Nul’s jack-up vessel Vole au vent has installed the first turbine at the Northwester 2 offshore wind project in Belgium.
Northwester 2 will comprise 23 MHI Vestas V164-9.5MW turbines, making it the first wind farm to feature this turbine model.
According to MHI Vestas, all major turbine components have been assembled and pre-commissioned in the Flushing marshaling harbor, with the first four turbines leaving a few days ago.
The turbine installation campaign is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2020 at the site 50km off the coast of Ostend.
“The installation of the first Northwester 2 turbine is yet another testament of the project moving closer towards producing green energy for over 220.000 households in Belgium. This energy will be produced by MVOW V164-9.5MW turbines, the world’s most powerful turbines to enter commercial operation till date,” said Parkwind’s Project Director for Northwester 2, Peter Caluwaerts .
To remind, Vole au vent completed the installation of monopile foundations at the 219MW offshore wind farm in mid-November.
