Norwegian Geotechnical Institute Secures Work on Dutch Offshore Wind Zone

The Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) has won a contract to develop an integrated ground model as part of a tender for geotechnical soil investigations at the Ten Noorden van de Waddeneilanden wind farm zone in the Dutch North Sea.

The contract is valued at around EUR 300,000.

As previously reported, under the same tender, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) selected Fugro to carry out the geotechnical soil investigation at the site also known as the North of the Wadden Sea Islands wind farm zone.

Fugro will be undertaking the investigations at the site from February until May. The value of this contract is around EUR 10.7 million.

The 700MW North of the Wadden Sea Islands zone is part of the Dutch government’s Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap 2030 which sets out plans for the development of 7GW of offshore wind capacity in the 2024-2030 period.

In addition to this 700MW zone, the wind farms to be prepared in the coming years will be located at the 1.4GW Hollandse Kust (west) and the 4GW IJmuiden Far Offshore (IJmuiden Ver) zones.

The tenders for the zones will be opened from 2021 onward, starting with the Hollandse Kust (West), and the projects are expected to be commissioned between 2024 and 2030.
