US Offshore Wind Farm Sets USD 58.47/MWh Electricity Price

US Offshore Wind Farm Sets USD 58.47/MWh Electricity Price

The 804MW Mayflower Wind offshore wind farm will deliver electricity to the Massachusetts grid at a record-low price of USD 58.47/MWh, the documents submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) show.

On Monday, 10 February, the Massachusetts Electric Distribution Companies filed long-term contracts with Mayflower Wind Energy LLC for the project for review and approval by the Department of Public Utilities (DPU).

The Department of Energy Resources (DOER) has subsequently submitted a filing letter requesting that DPU approve the 20-year contracts with Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil.

In October 2019, Mayflower Wind Energy LLC, a joint venture of Shell New Energies US LLC and EDPR Offshore North America LLC, submitted a winning bid in the second Massachusetts offshore wind solicitation.

The ”low cost energy” project which was selected is expected to start up in 2025.

The 800MW Vineyard Wind 1 project which was selected in the first offshore wind solicitation in Massachusetts will deliver electricity at a price equivalent to USD 67.59/MWh in real 2019 dollars or USD 64.97/MWh in real 2017 dollars.
