Sif Foundations for Akita-Noshiro Project in Japan

Sif has signed a final contract with Kajima Corporation to deliver the monopiles and transition pieces for the Akita-Noshiro offshore wind project in Japan.

The Dutch company is in charge of manufacturing 33 monopiles and 33 transition pieces which together make 25KTon of steel.

Sif will store the structures at its MV2 facility, with delivery at its deep-sea quayside expected this year.

“At Sif we are proud and thankful that Kajima corporation has put their trust in Sif for the supply of the monopiles of this first significant OSW farm. At Sif we consider this an important milestone and a confirmation that 5 years of investment in building up strong business relations in the developing Japanese OSW market has paid off,” said Fred van Beers , Sif CEO.

“The Japanese OSW market has a lot of mid to long term potential and Sif is committed to contribute to the successful development of this growing market”

The 140MW project was already in Sif’s order book as a project under exclusive negotiations but is now included as a firm contract.

To remind, a consortium led by Marubeni recently announced the start of construction at what is the first large-scale offshore wind project in Japan established on a commercial basis. Kajima Corporation is the EPCI contractor.

The project will comprise two wind farms that are planned to be operational in 2022.
