DEME’s jack-up Sea Challenger is en route to the Borssele 1 + 2 offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea loaded with the first batch of wind turbine components.

As reported earlier, Sea Challenger loaded the turbine components at the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark.

Owned and developed by Ørsted, the 752 MW Borssele 1 + 2 wind farm will comprise 94 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines installed on monopile foundations. Sea Challenger will be transporting and installing four turbines in each run.

The monopile foundations are currently being installed by DEME Offshore’s jack-up Innovation, while Van Oord is installing the inter-array cables.

The wind farm is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

Once commissioned, the electricity produced by the wind farm will be collected and transformed at the Borssele Alpha offshore substation prior to being delivered to the Dutch grid.
