Changhua Phase 1 Pin Piles Ready for Delivery

Edgen Murray, in collaboration with South Korea’s SeAH, has completed the manufacturing of 80 pin piles for the Changhua Phase 1 offshore wind project in Taiwan.

The project is now entering the final phase with the delivery expected to be completed in May, the Scotland-based company said.

Owned by Taiwan Power Company, the 109.2 MW Changhua Phase 1 offshore wind farm will comprise 21 Hitachi 5.2 MW turbines installed off the coast of Fangyuan in Central Western Taiwan.

The wind turbines will be mounted on jacket foundations. South Korea’s Samkang is manufacturing the jackets. The first delivery of four units is expected in the first half of May.

Each jacket will be secured to the seabed with four pin piles. The pin piles have a diameter of three metres, a maximum length of 82 metres, and a maximum weight of 310 tonnes, Edgen Murray said.

The consortium of Jan De Nul and Hitachi is developing the project on behalf of Taiwan Power Company.

Jan De Nul is responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of the foundations, the installation of the wind turbines, the supply and installation of the onshore and offshore cables, as well as for the upgrading of the substation.

Hitachi is in charge of manufacturing, assembly, operation and maintenance, and other works related to the offshore wind turbines with a downwind rotor.

The Changhua Phase 1 wind farm is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
