The launch of Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution (CGS) has been delayed until the end of August.

Movement and travel restrictions currently in effect in Denmark, Sweden and Germany in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have affected the CGS commissioning procedures, according to Danish Energinet.

“As far as can be seen now, due to these special circumstances as well as the complex tests for the Kriegers Flak overall system there will be some extra time needed. That means that the interconnection is expected for launch end of August 2020” , Energinet states.

This is a new rescheduling on the list of delays that affected the launch date of the complex project.

The commissioning of the 400 MW offshore grid link was originally planned for the end of 2018 and was delayed for the first time for the first quarter of 2019. In October 2018, Energinet informed that the launch date was pushed back to May 2019.

In 2019, the Kriegers Flak CGS was again rescheduled for launch, this time to the fourth quarter of 2019.

At the beginning of March 2020, Energinet reported a postponement of the Kriegers Flak CGS launch by a few months, with the then expected launch time being in the second quarter of this year.

These two delays, prior to the latest one due to COVID-19, were related to works on the converter in Bentwisch near Rostock, Germany.

Two offshore cables of the CGS were installed in July 2018, connecting the platform of the Danish 605 MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm with the platform at the German 288 MW Baltic 2 offshore wind farm, operational since 2015.

The interconnection at Kriegers Flak is enabled by one of the two substations, the 400 MW Kriegers Flak B, which accommodates the Kriegers Flak E module, installed at the beginning of May 2018.
