The 32nd and final wind turbine at the Trianel Windpark Borkum II (TWBII) site was installed on Sunday, 17 May.

“The last big components were installed Saturday, and final bolt and nut Sunday early morning” , Fred. Olsen Windcarrier informed on 18 May.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier was contracted in February to install eleven turbines on the project. The company’s vessel Blue Tern sailed out to the TWBII site with the first batch of turbine components at the beginning of March.

The Blue Tern replaced Jan De Nul’s Taillevent , which installed 21 wind turbines and then reportedly set sail to Taiwan.

The Taillevent installed the first Senvion 6.2M152 turbine in August 2019, some four months later than initially scheduled. Namely, the wind turbine installation, initially set for commencement in mid-April 2019, was delayed after Senvion filed for self-administration in early April 2019.

Senvion delivered the last turbine for the German offshore wind farm in November 2019.

Trianel Windpark Borkum II is the second phase of Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum’s project offshore Germany. The first 200 MW Trianel Windpark Borkum phase comprises 40 5 MW Adwen turbines, which have been operational since 2015.

TWBII is located 45 kilometres off the northern coast of Borkum Island, Germany.

The municipal utilities cooperation Trianel, along with 17 municipal utilities from Germany, holds a share of 37.99% in TWBII. EWE AG owns 37.5%, while a joint venture of the power utility of the city of Zurich hold 24.51% of the project share.
