Prysmian and TKF to Deliver Hollandse Kust Zuid Inter-Array Cable Systems

Vattenfall has signed final contracts with Prysmian Powerlink S.r.l. and B.V. Twentsche Kabelfabriek (TKF) for the manufacturing and supply of the inter-array cable systems for the Hollandse Kust Zuid 1-4 offshore wind farm.

The inter-array cable systems will connect approximately 140 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW wind turbines with two offshore high voltage stations in the Dutch North Sea.

The Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm will consist of four sites. Vattenfall was awarded permits to develop these four sites after winning two separate tender rounds in 2018 and 2019 .

The selection of the inter-array cable suppliers took place through two tendering processes. The Netherlands-based TKF will supply the inter-array cables for Hollandse Kust Zuid 1 & 2, while Italy’s Prysmian will supply the cables for Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 & 4.

Catrin Jung , Head of Offshore Wind Vattenfall, said: “Hollandse Kust Zuid is a flagship project for Vattenfall and for the Dutch energy transition. We look forward to working with TKF and Prysmian, both highly experienced companies, to make this project a success.”

The contracted scope for TKF includes the manufacturing and delivery of about 150 kilometres of 66 kV aluminium core inter-array cables and accessories to be installed in Hollandse Kust Zuid 1 & 2. The manufacturing of the cables will take place in Lochem and Haaksbergen, the Netherlands. The delivery of the cables is expected in 2022.

For Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 & 4, Prysmian will manufacture and supply about 172 kilometres of 66 kV XLPE-insulated inter-array cables and accessories. The manufacturing will take place in Nordenham, Germany, and the delivery is expected in 2022.

Subsea 7 will transport and install the wind farm’s inter-array cables.

The Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm is being developed by Vattenfall as the first subsidy-free wind farm in the Netherlands. It will be fully commissioned in 2023 and will have an installed capacity of approximately 1.5 GW.
