Second Triton Knoll Topside Ready to Move

The second Triton Knoll offshore substation platform (OSP) topside has been loaded onto a barge and fastened in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.

The Triton Knoll OSP East topside was seafastened onto the Greenbarge 3 at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen.

The Greenbarge 3 and the topside will be towed offshore the UK to be installed on the accompanying monopile foundation at the 857 MW wind farm.

The wind farm’s first offshore substation, the OSP West, was installed at the site some 32 kilometres off Lincolnshire by Seaway Strashnov mid-April.

Siemens Energy designed the OSPs and Smulders, in partnership with ENGIE Fabricom, built the topsides and the specialised monopile foundations.

The two OSPs will receive electricity generated by the wind farm’s 90 MHI Vestas v164-9.5 MW turbines and convert it for transfer to the landfall connection. The export cables are expected to be installed this summer.

Developed by innogy, Triton Knoll is scheduled to be commissioned in 2021. Offshore construction is well underway, with the first turbine foundation installed in January.
