Offshore wind developer Parkwind has signed a contract with Steelwind for the fabrication of the monopile foundations for the Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm.
The contract was signed at Steelwind’s headquarters in Nordenham, Germany.
This signature follows Parkwind’s recent order of the wind farm’s offshore substation at Bladt Industries.
Under the contract, Steelwind will deliver a total of 28 next-generation, XXL monopile foundations for the project. One of the foundations will support the wind farm’s offshore substation, the remaining 27 will be wind turbine foundations.
“We believe the signature of this agreement sends a strong positive message during a difficult COVID-19 context,” Arcadis Ost 1 Project Manager, Clément Helbig de Balzac from Parkwind, said.
”The impact generated by this contract fits into EU’s Green Deal initiative and demonstrates the offshore industry’s role in helping Germany reach its ambitious CO2 reduction targets as well as in stimulating the economy and local employment during a particularly difficult COVID-19 context.”
Steelwind will start producing the monopile foundations in 2021. Dillinger will supply the heavy steel plates for the units.
Dr.Ralf Hubo and Alexander Morber , managing directors of Steelwind, said: “These single-piece monopile foundations beyond XXL will be the biggest monopiles so far for German windfarms. The integration of some parts of the transition piece into the monopiles offers a new chance to reduce costs although the dimensions are really large.”
Arcadis Ost 1 is located in the German Baltic Sea and will comprise 27 MHI Vestas V174-9.5MW turbines installed approximately 19 kilometres northeast of the island Rügen in Germany.
The turbines will be installed using the floating turbine installation method, an industry’s first.
The wind farm will have a capacity of about 247 MW and is scheduled to be commissioned in 2023.
