Site investigation work at East Anglia Hub is expected to start in July, according to Iberdrola, the parent company of ScottishPower Renewables, which will build the 3.1 GW project in the UK.

The site investigation operations will mark the first deployment of personnel and contractors on the project, the developer states.

ScottishPower Renewables combined the East Anglia One North, East Anglia Two and East Anglia Three projects into one 3.1 GW development in November 2019.

The 1.4 GW East Anglia Three already has planning consent, while the planning applications for the further 1.7 GW at East Anglia One North and East Anglia Two were submitted in October 2019.

“[T]he main engineering, design and site investigation work is now in line with fast-track planning”, Iberdrola states in its results for the first half of the year.

In April, the company reported the main engineering, design and site investigation works to have been in the development stage.

“Bids have been received from wind turbine suppliers and activities have been initiated to purchase electrical components”, said the company, which plans to confirm the major suppliers until the end of September 2020.

The GBP 6 billion (approx. EUR 7.4 billion) East Anglia Hub is planned to enter the construction stage in 2022, with the entire project expected to be completed in four years.
