Sumitomo Electric Industries has selected Tekmar Energy to deliver the cable protection system (CPS) for the Akita and Noshiro offshore wind project in Japan.
Tekmar Energy will supply 64 CPS and cable hang-off arrangements for the two wind farms’ inter-array cables.

Sumitomo Electric, in a joint venture with the EPCI contractor Kajima Corporation, is in charge of the design, production and installation of subsea cables.
The company commenced the work in February 2020, when the Akita and Noshiro offshore wind farms entered construction phase . All subsea cables are expected to be delivered in 2022.
For the supply of foundations, Kajima Corporation has contracted Dutch manufacturer Sif, which will deliver 33 monopiles and 33 transition pieces, to be installed by Seajacks.
The Akita Noshiro project will comprise 33 Vestas V117-4.2MW typhoon variant wind turbines .
Offshore construction of the two wind farms, developed by a consortium led by Marubeni Corporation, will start in 2021 and the entire project is scheduled to be operational the following year.
