Arklow Bank Phase 2 Geotechnical Survey to Start in One Month

Geoquip Marine will commence geotechnical survey at the Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2 site in the Irish Sea in late August or early September, according to a Notice to Mariners from Ireland’s Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

The company will use its vessel Geoquip Saentis to carry out the survey work, which will be completed by the end of November.

The survey at the Irish offshore wind project site, located off the East Coast of County Wicklow in the Irish Sea, will include approximately 15 boreholes which will be drilled at discrete locations within the hatched area.

The Arklow Bank Phase 2 offshore wind farm, developed by SSE Renewables, has a consented minimum installed capacity of 520 MW and is planned to be built by 2025.

Geoquip’s survey vessel Geoquip Saentis sailed to the U.S. in May, where it has been deployed at Vineyard Wind’s 501 North Federal Lease Area off Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, for a geotechnical survey campaign at the site that will be the eventual location of the 804 MW Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind farm.

The survey work at Vineyard Wind’s site, which entails two of Geoquip Marine’s vessels, will be completed until September.
