DNV GL and DHI Secure Offshore Wind Work in Poland

PGE Baltica has hired DNV GL and DHI to assist in the development of the 1,498 MW Baltica 2 and the 1,045 MW Baltica 3 wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea.

DHI will be in charge of carrying out a meteorological and oceanographic (metocean) study for the two projects. The study will be performed using the most advanced tools and modeling methodologies, adequate to the specifics of the Baltic Sea basin, PGE Baltica said.

DNV GL will independently verify technical aspects of the cooperation model with a potential strategic partner in the development of the two wind farms. DNV GL will also carry out an independent verification of selected project assumptions, taking into account the best practices in the offshore wind energy sector and the interests of the PGE Capital Group, the parent company of PGE Baltica.

”The basis for the PGE Group’s climate neutrality in 2050 will be effective renewable energy. Wind farms in the Baltic Sea have enormous potential that we want to use in cooperation with the best, building our experience and competences. The contracts signed with DHI and DNV GL, leading contractors in the global offshore market, are proof of this,” said Wojciech Dąbrowski , President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

As previously reported, PGE and Ørsted are in the final stage of negotiations to form a 50-50 partnership on the Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 projects.

PGE secured the environmental permits for the two wind farms in January.

Baltica 2 is expected to generate first power by 2025 and be fully commissioned in 2026. Baltica 3 is scheduled to be completed by 2030.

The wind farms are located approximately 25-30 kilometres from the coastal city of Łeba.

PGE is also developing a third offshore wind project, the 896 MW Baltica 1, which is expected to be operational after 2030.
