Vineyard Wind has reached a transmission agreement with ISO New England (ISO-NE) for its 800 MW Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind project in Massachusetts.

The agreement allows the 800 MW wind farm to connect its generation into the New England electric power grid at the NSTAR 115kV switch station in Barnstable.

The move comes after Vineyard Wind in September received final acceptance for filing from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for the execution of its Interconnection Agreement with ISO-NE.

“We’re very pleased to reach this agreement, another important milestone in a project that will bring an entirely new industry to the US,” said Sy Oytan , deputy CEO of Vineyard Wind.

“There is tremendous potential for job creation, not just during construction but also for operations and maintenance. These are good paying jobs that will be around for decades to come.”

Vineyard Wind will comprise 84 MHI Vestas 9.5 MW turbines, installed some 22.5 kilometers south of Martha’s Vineyard and 56 kilometers off the coast of the Massachusetts mainland.

It is being developed by a joint venture company of Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
