Solstad Offshore has been awarded a contract by Ørsted to deploy its offshore support vessel (OSV) Normand Jarstein on the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm in the UK.

The contract has been signed for a period of four months, starting in the third quarter of 2021, when the vessel will support operations at the 1.4 GW project.

The Norwegian vessel operator has also reported a contract award for its vessel Normand Tonjer , which secured a firm contract until November 2021 with options for two twelve-month extensions. The company did not specify the project or work this vessel was contracted for.

According to AIS data, Normand Jarstein ‘s last several port calls were made in Esbjerg.

In August, Solstad Offshore informed Normand Jarstein would be deployed at the ten-year-old 60 MW Alpha Ventus offshore wind farm in Germany, for which it was outfitted with an Ampelmann E 1000 motion compensated gangway.

For Hornsea Two, the vessel will be mobilized with a gangway delivered by Uptime International, according to the operator’s posts on social media.

On Hornsea Two, construction is now well underway, with the first foundation and the jacket for offshore substation installed at the beginning of October.

The offshore wind farm is being built in the waters some 89 kilometres north-east of Grimsby.

Scheduled for commissioning in 2022, the 1.4 GW offshore wind farm will comprise 165 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines, an offshore substation and a reactive compensation station (RCS).

Once operational, Hornsea Two will become the biggest operational offshore wind farm in the world, producing enough electricity to supply over 1.3 million homes in the UK with green energy.
