MMT Surveying Seagreen Export Cable Route

MMT has commenced the geophysical survey of the export cable route at the Seagreen 1A offshore wind project in Scotland.

The team began the operations earlier this week onboard offshore survey vessel Franklin and will later be adjoined by a shallow draft vessel to perform the nearshore and intertidal parts of the survey.

The export cable route is approximately 100 km long and will run from the proposed Seagreen 1A site to a landfall location at the former Cockenzie Power Station, east of Edinburgh.

MMT worked on Seagreen back in the summer of 2018, when it performed the full geophysical and 2D UHRS site survey.

Seagreen, owned by Total and SSE Renewables, will be able to generate 1.5 GW from 150 turbines.

114 of the 150 consented turbines have a grid connection into Tealing, Angus, and construction on this grid connection started last year.

As there is restricted grid capacity available at Tealing, National Grid provided a 360 MW connection offer at Cockenzie in East Lothian to connect the remaining 36 turbines.
