Offshore Wind Powers Installation Jack-Ups at Port Esbjerg

DEME Group’s wind farm installation vessels Sea Installer and Sea Challenger have connected to Port Esbjerg’s new shore-to-ship power units .

The two jack-ups are the first installation vessels from the offshore wind industry, and the first two very large vessels to use certified green power generated at offshore wind farms while docked at Port Esbjerg.

The two shore-to-ship power units have a capacity of 500 amp each and can supply up to 11,000 kWh every 24 hours on the two cable outlets.

Both emissions of CO2, Sox, and Nox are reduced when using shore power rather than diesel generators and at the same time, noise pollution from the ships is reduced, Port Esbjerg said.

”The environmental benefits of having docked vessels connect to onshore power are entirely clear. That’s why we are so excited to be able to offer this service to also the very large vessels and to see a growing interest among our customers. We take it as a confirmation that we should continue our concerted efforts and major investments in the green transition at Port Esbjerg,” said Jesper Bank , CCO at Port Esbjerg.
