Northland Power is planning to submit applications for two new proposed development sites in the upcoming Round 3 offshore wind auction in Taiwan.
Referred to as NorthWind and CanWind, the proposed sites can accommodate a total capacity of up to 1,800 MW and are located off the coasts of Taichung county and Chunghwa, respectively.
Northland Power said it will submit the environmental impact assessment (EIA) applications as part of its commitment to additional long-term investment.

Northland’s current portfolio in Asia includes the development of the 1,044 MW Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan, as well as Chiba in Japan and Dado Ocean in South Korea .
Taiwan plans to have over 15.5 GW of operating offshore wind capacity by 2035. The Ministry of Economic Affairs expects to hold the third auction round in the second quarter of 2021, offering 1 GW capacity in the process.
The fourth and fifth auction rounds will be for 2 GW and will take place in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Projects selected in the three auction rounds are expected to be commissioned between 2026 and 2030.
