Foundation marshalling activities at the Port of Nigg

Global Energy Group’s (GEG) Port of Nigg has been selected as the marshalling, storage and logistics base for 114 wind turbine foundations for the 1,075 MW Seagreen offshore wind farm.

GEG has been awarded a contract for the project by Seaway 7, the EPCI contractor for Seagreen’s foundations and inter-array cables, on behalf of the developers SSE Renewables and Total.

Foundation installation at the project site in Scotland’s Firth of Forth is expected to commence in the second half of 2021 and last for twelve months, with 141 skilled jobs to be supported at Port of Nigg during peak construction: 93 permanent roles already on-site and an additional 48 new roles at the port. GEG will start recruitment for the new roles at Port of Nigg in the coming months.

The 114 jacket foundations – manufactured by Lamprell , COOEC-Fluor Heavy Industries and Jutal Offshore Oil Services – will be delivered to the port on board Heavy Transport Vessels (HTVs) and then transported to the project site in the North Sea for installation.

The 1,075 MW offshore wind farm, located 27 kilometres off the coast of Angus, will feature 114 MHI Vestas 10 MW wind turbines, scheduled to be put into operation in 2022/2023.

Once operational, the project will become Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, providing enough green energy to power more than 1.6 million homes and displacing over 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.
