NKT Delivers Triton Knoll Cables

NKT has finalized the manufacturing and delivery of both the export cable system and the inter-array cables for the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm.

The project comprises the manufacture of 100 kilometres of 220 kV HVAC offshore export cables and 144 kilometres of 66 kV inter-array cables, as well as the installation.

NKT completed the project in a consortium with Boskalis Subsea Cables and Flexibles (previously VBMS).

The cables for the wind farm were manufactured at NKT’s high-voltage power cable factory in Cologne, which is running on 100 per cent green electricity.

Located over 32 kilometres off the Lincolnshire coast, the UK, the 857 MW Triton Knoll wind farm will comprise 90 Vestas V164-9.5 MW wind turbines slated for full commissioning in 2022.

The wind farm, which has recently delivered its first power to the grid, is owned by RWE (59 per cent), J-Power (25 per cent) and Kansai Electric Power (16 per cent), with RWE leading both the wind farm’s construction and the long-term operation and maintenance works, on behalf of the project partners.

”Offshore wind is a cornerstone in mitigating climate change and we are proud to continue our long-term collaboration with RWE and its partners J-Power and Kansai Electronic Power to drive the green transition of the UK,” said Alexander Kara , President & CEO in NKT.

”The successful collaboration has been essential to our supply of both export- and array cables for Triton Knoll during the challenging times of COVID-19. With the finalization of the project, we continue to set our mark on the ongoing development of offshore wind as a leading power cable provider.”
