Siemens Gamesa has contracted ZITON to overhaul and upgrade the wind turbine blades at the German Meerwind offshore wind farm, for which the wind turbine supplier signed a contract with the wind farm owner WindMW.

The engaged vessel spread will include the service jack-up Wind Server and a Service Operation Vessel (SOV), with all technicians both offshore and onshore to be contracted by ZITON. Preparations for the work are now underway, and the campaign is expected to last between nine and twelve months, subject to weather conditions.

For ZITON, this campaign comes after being selected for a similar project at the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm in the UK. “We see this continuation with Siemens Gamesa as confirmation of our ability to deliver quality in a safe and dependable way and are looking forward to working with a new client under the Siemens Gamesa canopy” , said Thorsten Jalk , ZITON CEO.

Meanwhile, the Wind Enterprise jack-up, which Siemens Gamesa recently selected as its main service jack-up vessel for the coming years, is now ready for service under that contract after completing Class Approval. The vessel will serve Siemens Gamesa during the next three years and eight months as their primary service jack-up.

In May 2019, ZITON chartered Wind Enterprise on a bareboat agreement with Vroon. Following the tender win, ZITON lifted the option to buy the vessel, which was undergoing ten years Class Approval at Fayard shipyard in Denmark.
