Sembcorp Marine has contracted Palfinger to provide cranes for the offshore substation and the reactive compensation station to be installed at Ørsted’s 1.4 GW Hornsea Two wind farm offshore the UK.

Palfinger will equip the offshore substation with one telescopic crane (DKT400), two davit cranes (PF17000), and the reactive compensation station with one stiff-boom crane (PSM400) and two davit cranes (PF17000).

Both substations will be constructed by Sembcorp Marine’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms. The cranes will be used to load and unload cargo between crew transfer vessels and the decks of the substations.

Palfinger Singapore is also involved in this project, having received the order from Sembcorp Marine to install the telescopic, stiff boom, and davit cranes.

”We are working closely with our long-term business partner, Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms, and are coordinating the sophisticated requirements with our design engineers in Austria and Norway,” Alexander Lee , Palfinger’s Area Sales Manager in Singapore, said.

”The Sembcorp Marine team we are working with is particularly professional in terms of project implementation. Resources that are in short supply need to be utilized in the best possible way to ensure a flawless project outcome. That can happen only when everybody involved works together efficiently.”

Hornsea Two will comprise 165 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines installed across an area of 462 km² some 89 kilometres off Yorkshire. Offshore construction started in October 2020 and the wind farm is scheduled for commissioning in 2022.
