Dutch Magnetic Assemblies for Dogger Bank Haliade-X Turbines

Bakker Magnetics is about to start the production of magnetic assemblies for the GE Haliade-X turbines that will be installed at the 3.6 GW Dogger Bank offshore wind project in the UK.

Bakker Magnetics will fabricate and assemble magnetic assemblies for the turbines across all three phases of what is the world’s largest offshore wind project.

The company also revealed it had secured a EUR 3.9 million financing from SME lender Caple to carry out the project.

“For Bakker Magnetics, the challenge lies mainly in assembling the modules; no fewer than 147 magnets are placed in each module, different in shape and with positive and negative poles,” said Geert-Jan Bakker , CEO of Bakker Magnetics.

“All in all, it will be a gigantic job, but it is an important international recognition that we can contribute to the realization of the largest offshore wind farm in the world.”

Dogger Bank is being built in three equal phases of 1.2 GW each. The first two phases, Dogger Bank A and B, will feature 190 GE Haliade-X 13 MW turbines, scheduled to deliver the first electricity in 2023.

For the third phase, Dogger Bank C, the developers opted for the 14 MW version of the Haliade-X model.

The wind farm is expected to be fully completed in 2026.
